My Current Favorite Diapers (it does change)

PreFolds and Flip or Econobum Covers

These diapers are my workhorse.  I use them more than any diaper. It is a simple system. I use an infant sized prefold, fold in thirds, inserted into my water proof cover. I have included pictures, I can't visualize things, I need to see it and touch it when possible. When I started thinking about using cloth it was annoying to not be able to shoot down to Target and check these bad boys out. I made do but now I'm here to help parents understand cloth choices.

Not all diapers are created equal

I have tried almost all types of cloth diapers at this point. There are hundreds of brands out there; my stash right now consists of Rumparoos, BumGenius, DryBees, Thristies All-in-ones, Flip covers, Econobum covers, prefolds and some chinesse off brands of all-in-one. I prefer to use covers and prefolds when we are at home. When we are out of the house I use AIO (all-in-ones). If we go on a trip I either have AIO, covers and disposie inserts or disposies (the diapers the rest of the world uses). I'm going to post about each kind of cloth I use including Pros and Cons.

Cloth Diapers

I have been using cloth diapers for 6 months now. I did a lot of research into CDing before I decided what to use. I wish it had been easier. In the last 6 months it is unbelievable how many sites and blogs have showed up to help parents. I find myself reading them now and wishing they were around 9 months ago. I'm going to try to add some information to my blog to help parents with question I had.

Birth

Samantha Grace's Home Birth

My due date came and went with Samantha, just like it did with #2 (Courtney). I decided on day 3 of being over due I would drink some castrol oil.  It wasn't to bad, but it didn't work. I drank more and some contraction started, however they stopped after 8 to 10 hours. I don't recommended the oil, it didn't hurt me but I had contractions for 2 days off and on. I only became more tired.  The contraction finally kicked into high gear around 7pm on 17th.  Lynnette arrived.  Transition time began.

I'm not going to lie, my back labor was painful, but not something you couldn't handle. I had practiced self hypnotises the last 4 months of my pregnancy. This is a must for any mom that is going to go natural.  Women are taught from a very young age that labor equals pain and we are such wimps that we can't handle it.  Well sorry ladies, that's a bunch or S*^#!  Women naturally have a high pain tolerance for this very reason. I had to retrain myself to trust my body. I knew that not many years ago it was very common for birth to be handled at home with midwives and other women.  I knew that I could do this. Now remember this is my third birth. I have had 2 babies in hospital. One with an epidural and one without. Which I think gives me a little experience in knowing about the birth process. I believe it's all in the preparation.  No one would even consider letting a first time driver, drive a school bus full of children.  You need to surround yourself with women that can help you and understand what you are going through.

After my water broke, I knew it was time to start pushing. I was so relieved to be getting to the finish line.  By this time I had been up for almost 24 hours. I pushed Samantha out at 12:01 am on May 18th.  She started crying before I even got her shoulders out.  It was the best sound.  She was posterior (face-up) just like the first two. That explained the back labor, again. It is easier for babies to be anterior (face-down) so that their skull can flex around your tailbone.

After the birth my wonderful midwives, Lynnette and Kim stayed for 3 hours.  I was able to get up and take shower. Something I couldn't do at the hospital because they take your baby to the nursery.  I felt refreshed and ready to try nursing.  I was completely relaxed in my own home. Samantha's birth and the days following were wonderful.  I have posted some G rated pictures.

Home Birth

Shortly after I gave birth to daugher number 2, I decided that I wasn't going back to the hospital to have another baby. I didn't have a bad experience at my local hospital but I knew that for me, it wasn't where I wanted to bring my child into this world.  I didn't exactly know what was legal in Colorado, so I set off on a research project. I love to read and pretty much read every book on home birth, midwives, doulas, not to mention everything I could find on the Internet. Through the Internet I discovered Lynnette Chambers LPM, CM, and RN. Lynnette is a home birth midwife in my area. After getting my husband on board with the home birth I scheduled an appointment with her 6 months before I became pregnant. I'm a planner! She was perfect for us.

Here are the most annoying things about telling people you are having a planned home birth, they assume your crazy and that it's unsafe, meaning you or the baby is going to die.  There hasn't been many studies done in the United States about planned home birth. Most studies include women that didn't have time to get to the hospital before the baby came, that is called an unplanned home birth. I don't want to post a hundred links to articles and medical studies. I have them if you want them or simply BING home birth stats. I won't preach about home birth vs. hospital birth. This is my experience with baby #3. If you want to know more info please ask and I will give you the long version of this story.

Welcome Back

It has been a really long time since I added any blogs. I'm going to try to keep this updated. I don't know if anyone is reading it, but at least I will get my thoughts out there.

Here's what's new with us. Samantha Grace was born May 18th, 2010 at 12:01 am. I will be posting a separate blog about my experience with her home birth. That's right people I said Home Birth. Stay tuned for that one.

Gabriella's birthday is fast approaching. She will be 8 December 26th. We will be having a Pink Poodles in Paris party. I will keep you up to date on that to.
I am going to try to make this blog a little more informational, meaning I will add things about how I'm raising my family. This will probably include things about home birth, raising three daughters, why I had children so far apart, breastfeeding, cloth diapering and pretty much what's going on with our crazy Tippey clan.
