Shortly after I gave birth to daugher number 2, I decided that I wasn't going back to the hospital to have another baby. I didn't have a bad experience at my local hospital but I knew that for me, it wasn't where I wanted to bring my child into this world. I didn't exactly know what was legal in Colorado, so I set off on a research project. I love to read and pretty much read every book on home birth, midwives, doulas, not to mention everything I could find on the Internet. Through the Internet I discovered Lynnette Chambers LPM, CM, and RN. Lynnette is a home birth midwife in my area. After getting my husband on board with the home birth I scheduled an appointment with her 6 months before I became pregnant. I'm a planner! She was perfect for us.
Here are the most annoying things about telling people you are having a planned home birth, they assume your crazy and that it's unsafe, meaning you or the baby is going to die. There hasn't been many studies done in the United States about planned home birth. Most studies include women that didn't have time to get to the hospital before the baby came, that is called an unplanned home birth. I don't want to post a hundred links to articles and medical studies. I have them if you want them or simply BING home birth stats. I won't preach about home birth vs. hospital birth. This is my experience with baby #3. If you want to know more info please ask and I will give you the long version of this story.
